Paul Butterworth's entry into the search industry
follows thirteen years as an officer in the Royal
Navy. Operational deployments around the world were
followed by two years as the Aide-de-Camp to the
Commander-in-Chief Fleet, working at the highest
levels of the international defence community. On
assuming his first ship command, Paul Butterworth
was the youngest Commanding Officer in the British
Armed Forces. This was followed by a second ship
command in the Eastern Mediterranean, conducting
force protection and anti-terrorist operations off
Cyprus. His final appointment in the Royal Navy
was as the Programming Officer for the unique International
Fleet Review, where 174 ships were gathered in the
Solent to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle
of Trafalgar.
Background
Born on the Fylde Coast, Lancashire and educated
at Arnold School, Blackpool, Paul Butterworth trained
as a Naval officer at the prestigious Britannia
Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. Three years were
then spent at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth
from which he graduated with an Honours degree in
Law. Paul is a Member of the Nautical Institute,
the Institute of Directors, the City Naval Club,
Anchorites and the Army & Navy Club. He is also
a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman
of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights.

Paul specialises in high level executive search
within the defence/aerospace, maritime & shipping
and general technology sectors with a particular
emphasis on Board and Director level appointments.
